What vitamins and minerals are fish oil and omega-3 compatible with?

One of the important components of the human diet should be PUFA (deciphered as polyunsaturated fatty acids), especially omega-3 fractions. They are necessary to maintain beauty and health, preserve youth and prevent serious diseases. But if these compounds come not only with food, but also in the form of supplements, there is a natural question about the compatibility of omega with other vitamins.

If you have taken alcohol, omega-3 and vitamins should be drunk no earlier than a day after the last dose of alcohol.

Most often, people take a multivitamin complex with minerals or separate compounds, such as magnesium, iron, calcium or vitamin D. How safe is the combination with omega-3 or is it worth dilute the techniques in time? We’ll figure it out together with Elena Paretskaya, a nutritionist.

Is it possible to combine

Most often, the compatibility of omega is discussed in relation to combination with multivitamin complexes containing both water- and fat-soluble vitamins, trace elements and additional compounds of plant or animal origin. Often, such combinations mutually enhance the effects of taking it, but ill-considered administration of drugs without assessing the dose and composition of each of the complexes can threaten the development of hypervitaminosis.

Therefore, when deciding to take fish oil, its compatibility with specific minerals or vitamins should be discussed with your doctor in advance. The doctor will take into account individual contraindications, the state of health, evaluate the dosages of specific compounds in the complex and determine how to combine them correctly.

The Omega-3 PNUA group is food nutrients that are required by the human body every day. This is explained by their biological role in the body of each of us. The most basic:

  • Structural components of the biological membrane of any cell necessary for tissue renewal and restoration.
  • Support of heart and vascular health, prevention of cholesterol plaque formation and plaques on the walls of blood vessels.
  • Preservation of elasticity, tone, elasticity of the skin, prevention of dryness, peeling, inhibation of age-related processes.
  • An integral part of the gray matter in the structure of the brain, which has a positive effect on the formation of cognitive functions, especially memory and concentration.
  • Strengthening the immune system, stimulation of its cellular and humoral links.

It is important to emphasize that omega-3 and fish oil are not the same thing. This fact is important to take into account when assessing the compatibility of omega 3 with other components. In addition to omega PUFA, fish oil contains other types of lipids, as well as vitamins of the fat-soluble group – especially A and D.

If we talk about omega acids, to date, 11 different types are known, three of them are the most important for our body – DHA or docosahexaenoic, EPK or eicosapentaenoic and ALC or alpha-linoleic acids. They should be taken as supplements if there is a shortage of them in food.

Advantages and disadvantages of joint reception

One of the key advantages of taking omega-3 together with various vitamins is to provide an additional portion of healthy fats necessary for metabolism. For example, the compatibility of omega and vitamin D is ideal, since the latter is soluble in fats and absorbed as fully as possible. But it is important to remember that fish oil itself contains a certain amount of colecalciferol (this is the scientific name of vitamin D), and its dosage in supplements should be slightly reduced.
However, it is fat-soluble vitamins that should be given special attention if the compatibility of complexes is assessed. The fact is that fat-soluble vitamins, unlike water-soluble ones, are capable of accumulation in the body, which means that in case of overdose they can form toxic effects. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s quite dangerous for health. It is especially necessary to carefully evaluate the compatibility of omega 3 and vitamin D3, as it is usually drunk in increased dosages.

Compatibility with vitamins and minerals

Regarding the compatibility of omega-3 with various vitamins and minerals necessary for the body, not so many studies have been conducted yet to draw final conclusions. These connections are still being studied in detail. There are three compatibility options that are worth remembering when selecting complexes – positive, negative and neutral. The summarized data is collected in the table:

Compatibility with specific vitamins and compounds

It is important to consider certain nuances of compatibility of omega PUFA complexes with specific vitamins and trace elements, biologically active substances, as they have some features of reception.

Colecalciferol and tocopherol

Vitamin E, along with vitamin D, is necessary for the body to maintain the metabolic rate, prevent premature aging, including the nervous system and brain, maintain the health of the heart, blood vessels and strengthen immunity. In addition, they are essential for reproductive health and mental health.

It is known that the compatibility of omega and vitamin D, E is very high, since these are fat compounds and their joint intake mutually enhances the effects. Thus, the condition of the cardiovascular and digestive systems improves, the risk of blood clots is reduced, the liver function is normalized.

But there is one nuance – supplements with omega-3 in combination with vitamin E should not be taken against the background of an elevated level of calcium or colecalciferol in the plasma. This can increase the risk of bleeding.

Vitamin B7

Its second name is biotin, a substance that is necessary for protein synthesis, absorption of carbohydrates and fats, cell rejuvenation, stimulation of bone marrow. Against the background of a lack of biotin, the appearance suffers – the condition of nails and hair deteriorates, the skin suffers, the absorption of iron in plasma decreases, pressure may fluctuate, weakness and depression are formed.

For biotin to be better absorbed, it needs the presence of magnesium. Although the compatibility of omega 3 and magnesium is quite satisfactory, but biotin as a water-soluble compound should be diluted with the intake of PUFA at different times of the day, together they are poorly absorbed.

Lecithin

This compound is found in various products and additives, it is necessary for the full functioning of cells. The presence of lecithin helps in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and omega-3, but purified lecithin in capsules is best absorbed.

Iron and zinc

This trace element is necessary for the synthesis of new blood cells – erythrocytes. In addition, iron is a part of many enzymes involved in metabolic and immune processes. To absorb iron, it is necessary to supply a sufficient amount of water and ascorbic acid. Although the compatibility of omega and vitamin C is quite good, but it is not worth taking iron and ascorbic acid together with omega, it is better to dilute them at different times of the day.

The situation is similar with another important trace element – the compatibility of omega and zinc is unsatisfactory, so it is worth dissociating the intake of these additives by time of day.

Can I have alcohol?

Another important question that interests many people is whether it is possible to take omega PUFA, as well as vitamins and minerals together with alcohol. According to scientists, such combinations are unfavorable, since omega, like many vitamins and trace elements, are metabolized in the liver. Alcohol intake disrupts the work of the organ, so the substances will be absorbed incompletely, their toxic effects and side effects may appear.

Which omega-3 to choose

It is important that this is a quality product that contains the maximum amount of nutrients. In our line, we offer four omega-3 variants in combination with additional components.
An example of an effective complex is products with omega-3 from Grassberg. These are complexes:
  1. OMEGA 3 PREMIUM 1000 1200 mg – with additional vitamin E in the composition and PUFA content 60%.
  2. OMEGA BALANCE 3 6 9 is a complex of fish oil, linseed oil, medicinal butter.
  3. OMEGA 3 VALUE – each capsule of the product contains a high content of active nutrients 18% EPA (EPA) and 12% DHA (DHA).
  4. The COD LIVER OIL complex is suitable for those people who do not tolerate the taste and smell of fish oil in liquid form, but they need to replenish both omega-3 and vitamins. Enclosed in a capsule, this valuable product is devoid of such disadvantages, while helping to replenish the reserves of fat-soluble vitamins and omega acids.
These complexes help to replenish the daily dose of omega acids, as they contain a mixture of omega-3 PUFA necessary for the body. If the complex is used in combination with changes in daily nutrition, it helps to improve the appearance and general health of men and women, strengthen immunity, prevent heart and vascular problems.
