About the useful properties of Omega-3
General Data
Characteristics of omega-3
Three types of omega-3 acids are especially important for the human body:
- ALC or alpha-linoleic – it can be found in vegetable oil – red, linseed, rapeseed, soybean.
- EPK or eicosapentaena – there is especially a lot of it in sea fatty fish, for example, tuna, salmon.
- DHA or docosahexaenoic acid – it is a lot in fatty species of salmon fish.
ALC is considered especially important of all three acids, it belongs to the indispensable variants of PUFA, it should be obtained with food or additives constantly. This is due to the fact that the body itself cannot synthesize this acid from food, but it is vital in metabolic processes.
Useful (theratic) properties
It is important to take a closer look at the beneficial properties of omega 3 in relation to the body. These compounds are especially important for the health of the cardiovascular system, as they are involved in important metabolic processes that help in the work of the heart itself and maintain vascular tone.
Reduction in the amount of triglycerides
The properties of omega-3 to reduce the level of lipid fractions of blood, especially triglycerides, were studied in particular detail. This is a part of the lipid spectrum of blood that circulates through the vessels and can be stored in the form of subcutaneous fat in problem areas. In addition, increased concentrations of triglyceride fractions are associated with the development of atherosclerotic plaques in the walls of the arteries, which increases the risk of heart attack or stroke. Growing plaques gradually narrow the inner lumen of the arteries, which disrupts the delivery of oxygen to the tissues, which is especially dangerous for the myocardium and brain, muscles and kidneys.
Reducing the risk of dangerous arrhythmias
If the heart rate is uneven, too fast or slow, contractions occur with interruptions, this is arrhythmia. Some of the rhythm disturbances are relatively harmless, but there are also those in which the risks of stroke or other serious health problems increase. The most dangerous are:
- Atrial fibrillation.
- Atrial fibrillation.
- Ventricular fibrillation
According to numerous studies, a link has been revealed between increased consumption of omega-3 and a decrease in the frequency of fatal arrhythmias.
Prevention of atherosclerosis
The main problem in this pathology is the formation of cholesterol plaque on the inner surface of the arteries. Gradually, plaques are formed in the walls of blood vessels – a mixture of cholesterol, calcium and fat, dying cells. This creates a bulge inside the vessel, which limits the flow of blood through it. When the plaque covers more than 70% of the artery, there is a risk that the blood flow will stop altogether.
If you switch to a diet that is rich in products with omega-3, it will help reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke. But it is important that the food is low in saturated fat and has a large amount of omega-3. It is these compounds that have an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect, help to improve the functioning of endothelial cells covering blood vessels. If the diet is not rich in PUFA, it is worth adding additional intake of supplements with them.

Help in blood pressure correction
Increased pressure, especially under stress or against the background of overwork, excitement or physical exertion, can threaten a heart attack (death of a part of the myocardium) or the development of a stroke (death of a part of the brain). Scientists have identified positive effects on the pressure level of regular consumption of omega-3. With sufficient intake of PUFA, both upper and lower pressure are slightly reduced, which has a positive effect on health.
Excess omega-3: consequences
If these substances are taken uncontrollably and in increased quantities, they can lead to significant shifts in the body’s metabolism. Thus, abundant and prolonged, difficult to stop bleeding in case of minor injuries can be provoked. This is due to a kind of “liquefaction” of blood with fats. In addition, an excess of omega-3 can give a pronounced decrease in pressure.
Not all people can take these substances in the form of food, additional supplements. This applies to allergy sufferers who react to sea fish, as well as people with increased bleeding and liver damage.

To be useful!
Diversify your diet with salads with rapeseed, sesame oil, eat fatty or semi-fat sea fish at least twice a week. Cook from fresh fish, when frozen, the fish partially loses its benefits. Seafood and caviar will diversify the diet.
If you don’t have time to monitor your diet, a teaspoon of flaxseeds a day will come to the rescue. Due to it, the body will receive a portion of omega-3 acids daily. Flaxseed can be mixed with salads or ground into powder and taken as a “cure” with water.
If the rhythm of life is extremely intense, there is no possibility to monitor nutrition, you can take dietary supplements with omega-3. However, it is worth remembering about contraindications and overdoses so as not to harm the body!
